January MPDT

Well, I’m back in the saddle again!

After a nice long Christmas break, Mystic Paper has new product to show off, and we (Holly, Sheri and myself) are the lucky ones who get to do it!

The printed Paper is another sheet of Cavallini wrapping paper, in a Vintage Valentine theme.  Along with the paper, I was given a bunch of fun Valentines doo-dads to play with.  Once I get rolling with my projects, I like to works straight through and get everything finished before I clean up (not small task) so, I am rolling right along!  I can’t wait to share!

Family photos 2010

We were so pleased with our Christmas photo session (taken WAAAAY back in October!) through One3photo.com.   This photo business is owned by a High School friend of mine, Kelly Kennedy, and she has done many family sessions with Church friends.  I wanted to finally share them with everyone- I was sort of keeping them a secret to show families at Christmas, but they are ready to be unveiled!  These were also the photos I used for my last Mini Books Anonymous design team project, and I will be putting that on the blog, shortly.  I am still waiting for my January DT project for Mystic Paper, I think it will turn into a Valentines project at this point!  I will keep you posted, it’s good to be back!

One more…

This mini book again uses the Glitz design papers, as well as many inks and paints.  It came together so quickly, the whole thing took right around an hour!  I love the photos- they are from a photo booth at Smeeks candy in Phoenix, and I have been waiting for just the right project for a long time.  The book is on display, and all the materials used can be purchased at Mystic Paper!

Thanksgiving…

So thankful…

Well, after many, many (2) guesses as to what phrase I put on my November DT project for Mystic Paper, (Thank you, Sarah and Patty!), the intense contest frenzy has come to an end with no correct guesses and therefore, no winners.  That’s right, NO WINNERS.  Perhaps I am putting myself in harms way as the pulsing mob waits with baited breath to discover the outcome, but fair is fair, and I must stick to my guns.  The phrase I put on my bunting banner (very popular right now!) using the Melissa Francis glitter alphabet, and therefore could repeat NO letters is….

I was seriously surprised and pleased that this phrase would work with the materials I was given!   I had to write out the phrase and check the letters because I couldn’t quite trust my brain that there were no repeats!  Considering the season, I seriously dodged a bullet as well!  I mean, ‘Give Thanks’ is a great and always appropriate phrase, but it wouldn’t have played out nearly as well in March or April.

Close up…

The materials used were the Glitz paper (AZ girls!) as well as the new Tim Holtz lavish trimmings, dyed orange and brown with Alcohol inks.  This new ribbon was so fun to work with, especially the stretchy ribbon I used to made the accent bows- the elastic is so fun and feminine, you could use it to make a garter belt for a bride-to-be!

The rest of my MPDT projects will follow shortly.  In the meantime, make sure to hop on over to Holly and Patty’s blogs to see what they’ve been up to!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know I have a new niece?

Welcome to our family, Rachel Elizabeth!  And congratulations to David and Jenna!

Baby feet, Yay!

It’s nice to have a picture of me holding a newborn where I’m not totally bloated and disgusting.

Help!  I can’t use my eyeballs! :0)

Sparkle and Shine- Mini Books Anonymous November DT

I had so much fun with my ‘Sparkle and Shine’ themed minibook for the month of November.  I got into a Halloween theme using Graphic 45′s new line, Halloween in Wonderland.  The case for the book is made of an Altoid tin, colored with Alcohol Inks, and covered with black glass.  I was beginning to piece together ideas for the project, when I ran an errand with my family to a grocery store.  Somehow or another, a tinted window had been broken in the parking lot.  My frugal, artsy (or, as my husband calls it ‘crazy’) mind just KNEW the black glass would be perfectly glitzy and sophisticated for an Alice in Wonderland project, and I collected it to take home.  Did I mention my husband calls me crazy?

The book itself is woven around a long, black ribbon, then glued into the book shape.  Each of the Suites in the deck of cards were ‘Sparkled and shined’ with glitter or foil transfer paper.  Adding several glossy, black drops of nail polish dripping in every direction, and singeing the edge of every page added a spooky element!  IThe book came together quickly, and outside of materials I already had, I only spent about $2 on the Graphic 45 paper.

The video I made for my Mini Books Anonymous Design Team can be seen HERE!  Thanks for visiting!

November DT and Giveaway!

I had so much fun with the generous packet from Mystic Paper this month!  There was a TON of new product, including Tim Holtz’s new Lavish Trimmings Ribbon, Melissa Francis glitter alphabet, and paper from a new, and local (to AZ) company, Glitz Designs! With a little black and white ‘pop’ thrown in, everything came together so easily!  I’ll share soon!

Here’s a quick technique I wanted to share:  The glitter letters were great, but VERY bright.  As I tend to go for a more antique look in my projects, I had to do a little adjusting.  Thanks to Tim Holtz alcohol inks lights and brights, as well as a layer of Matte medium, the glittler is muted in color and sheen, as well as sealed from ‘sprinkling’ all over my house, the car, and Mystic Paper!  I love making the product work for me, instead of the other way around!

So… there was another challenge with the Melissa Francis alphabet… there was only ONE of each letter in the set, so I had to think of a use for the letters with NO repeats… can you guess what phrase/name/statement I used?  The first person to guess right will receive an assortment of paper from me, suitable for a holiday card or a few tags!  Good luck!
